I support City because of the ’98 World Cup hosted and won by France I started watching more French Football and a French Footballer by the name of Nicolas Anelka kind of stood out to me a few years later, so I started to follow his career in passing.
Then I was stationed overseas in Japan via the US Navy in 2002 and was completely removed from my US Sports addictions. I was looking for something to fill the void and it just so happened that Anelka was set to join this club I had never heard of called “Manchester City?”.
City was this underdog team that hadn’t won anything in years and was overshadowed by another team in the same city. I was like, “they sound like the Chicago Cubs”, their fans had suffered like I had as a Cubs fan and they now have a player that I’m really familiar with…and the rest is history.
I kept following City after he left and now I’m a fan for life.
